The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant George H. Pedigo, Jr. (ASN: RA-18338780), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 16 September 1950 in the vicinity of Changnyong, Korea. The rifle platoon of which Sergeant Pedigo was a member was assaulting a well-entrenched enemy strong point. While the remainder of his squad prepared to maneuver against the objective, Sergeant Pedigo moved into an exposed position and by accurate rifle fire prevented the enemy from emplacing a machine gun on the squad’s flank. He then joined in the final charge on the hostile position, killing four of the enemy and greatly aiding his unit in seizing the objective with a minimum of casualties. The gallantry displayed by Sergeant Pedigo reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
