The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Billie Pearson (ASN: RA-14841629), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the Medical Company, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 18 December 1950, near Hungnam, Korea, Private Pearson, an aid man attached to Company I, 3d Battalion, was with a platoon when it was fiercely attacked by superior enemy forces. Without regard for his personal safety, Private Pearson heroically treated the wounded while under enemy observation and fire. While treating one wounded man, three enemy rounds pierced his cap. Heedless of the danger involved he continued giving aid to the wounded man, ignoring the enemy’s fire. Upon completion of administering proper medical aid, he established an aid station on the front line where he continued to treat all wounded personnel. Upon completion of treating all wounded, he seized one of the wounded men’s rifle and assisted in filling a gap in the lines. The heroic and inspiring actions of Private Pearson reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
