The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private Robert William Palitti (ASN: RA-16267994), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 19 September 1950 in the vicinity of Changnyong, Korea. During the assault against a numerically superior and well-entrenched enemy, Private Palitti’s company suffered heavy casualties from the intense hostile automatic weapons fire to which it was subjected. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he assumed the duties of aid man and moved about constantly exposed to the enemy fire to administer first aid to his wounded comrades. While carrying a seriously wounded soldier to the safety of a foxhole, he was killed by hostile fire. The gallantry and selfless devotion to his fellow comrades displayed by Private Palitti were a source of pride and inspiration to all members of his company and fully upheld the finest traditions of the military service.
