The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry), [then Corporal] Harold R. Page (ASN: 0-2263014), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of 2d Reconnaissance Company, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 14 February 1951, in the vicinity of Chaum-ni, Korea. The 2d Reconnaissance Company, together with Company L of the 9th Infantry Regiment, was being attacked by an overwhelming number of enemy which was trying to crack the perimeter defense set up earlier by these companies. Lieutenant Page, a rifle squad leader, receiving no fire in his sector, crossed the road and helped direct the fire of another squad while administering first aid to the wounded under intense hostile fire and with complete disregard for his personal safety. When help arrived for the squad, Lieutenant Page returned to his own squad, which was now under attack, and organized and directed their fire, inflicting heavy casualties upon the enemy. When the order was received to prepare to withdraw, Lieutenant Page exposed himself repeatedly, gathering and loading the wounded onto vehicles. He then took his squad to the rear of the vehicles and covered them to prevent the enemy from closing in. The gallantry displayed by Lieutenant Page was an inspiration to his men and reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
