Headquarters, 25th Infantry Division, General Orders No. 34 (January 19, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Francis Omori (ASN: RA-30102079), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company D, 1st Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. When a hostile force infiltrated through friendly lines in the vicinity of Haman, Korea, on 31 August 1950, and severed communications between two sections of a mortar platoon, Private First Class Omori and another soldier volunteered to repair the line. Advancing some 1,000 yards through heavy hostile fire they located the break in the wire; as they commenced repairs, a group of enemy surrounded and overpowered them, divesting them of their footgear and weapons. Engaging the enemy soldiers in fierce hand-to-hand fighting they recovered their weapons and killed six of the foe; when his comrade was mortally wounded, Private First Class Omori fought on alone and succeeded in escaping into friendly lines. The outstanding courage, indomitable fighting spirit and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Private First Class Omori reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
