(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918 (amended by an act of July 25, 1963), takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Robert H. Curry, United States Army, for gallantry in action involving conflict with an armed hostile force in the Republic of Vietnam. Sergeant First Class Curry distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions in 1968, while serving as a platoon sergeant in the 2d Battalion, 2d Infantry Regiment (Mechanized), 1st Infantry Division. When the Viet Cong launched a fierce attack against his unit, after deploying his men, Sergeant First Class Curry maneuvered toward the enemy’s fortified bunkers and single-handedly knocked out two enemy positions with hand grenades. He had to challenge the enemy fire power at very close distance in order to be within hand grenade range. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Sergeant First Class Curry, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
