The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal George Nwranski (ASN: RA-13344052), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, on 28 August 1951 in the vicinity of Chukp’o-dong, Korea. On the morning of the 28th, Corporal Nwranski had the mission of blocking off an enemy force which was attempting to advance through a pass. He moved his 57-mm. rifle squad along with a platoon down to the pass through enemy artillery, mortar, and small-arms fire. Slowly Corporal Nwranski moved through the intense enemy fire into an advantageous firing position and set up a road block. Once in position, he located a 76-mm. enemy artillery piece which had been wreaking havoc on friendly troops with its incredible accuracy. Showing cool combat poise, Corporal Nwranski took careful aim and fired nine rounds. When the smoke cleared, Corporal Nwranski’s amazing ability was clearly seen. He had destroyed the 76-mm. and inflicted numerous casualties upon the enemy. His voluntary action, moving from a position of relative security to one of extreme danger, saved many of his comrades’ lives. The gallantry in action displayed by Corporal Nwranski will live forever in the hearts of his comrades.
