The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Armor) Francis G. Nordstrom, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company D, 89th Medium Tank Battalion, 25th Infantry Division. On 29 November 1950 near Pugwon, Korea, friendly units were displacing under heavy hostile attack. Advancing to the front of the tank elements, he calmly moved throughout the area and directed the vehicles to positions from which effective fire could be directed at the onrushing enemy. By his instantaneous reaction to the tactical emergency, he was instrumental in preventing further hostile penetration, thus maintaining the integrity of friendly lines. Lieutenant Nordstrom’s resolute leadership, military ability and selfless devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Army.
