The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Morris G. Nobles (ASN: US-56072221), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company L, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 19 September 1951 in the vicinity of Suim-myon, Korea. On this date Company L was in defensive positions being subjected to the fierce attacks of a numerically superior enemy force. During his action, Sergeant Nobles observed an unoccupied emplacement which commanded the enemy’s main avenue of approach. Although suffering from an unhealed wound received in an earlier battle, he secured an automatic weapon and several hand grenades and advanced over the hazardous terrain to the emplacement. Through at times his position was in the verge of being overrun by the enemy, Sergeant Nobles remained in his position and tenaciously held off the onrushing foe. During this action and the hours of fighting that followed he inflicted many casualties upon the enemy. As a result of his courageous actions the enemy was forced to abandon its mission. The gallantry in action and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Nobles on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
