The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Eddie L. Noble (ASN: US-51177787), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 18 July 1953 in the vicinity of Kachlil-Li, North Korea. On that date, at approximately 0300 hours, the enemy unleashed a tremendous volume of mortar fire upon the friendly positions followed by a furious attack. When an enemy grenade landed in the communications trench, Private Noble, completely disregarding his personal safety, picked it up and hurled the grenade at the hostile troops. Hearing that the friendly Listening Posts were isolated, he immediately volunteered to aid them and although under direct enemy observation, he dashed across the fire swept terrain. As he crossed the open field, Private Noble encountered an enemy force and during the ensuing fire fight he killed two of the foe and wounded a third. He continued to his objective and returned with the formerly trapped men. Without hesitation he gain passed through the withering barrage of enemy fire, rescued his comrades from another Listening Post and aided in the evacuation of the wounded to friendly positions. Completely ignoring the intense hostile fire, which saturated the area, he advanced to the crest of the hill and ran from bunker to bunker passing out ammunition and grenades. His courageous actions and selfless devotion to duty undoubtedly saved several lives and aided in repulsing the enemy attack. The gallantry in action exhibited by Private Noble reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
