The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Harold B. Nidiffer (ASN: RA-16307650), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 31 August 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On that date, during the attack on an enemy-held hill, Private Nidiffer’s platoon was pinned down immediately after crossing the line of departure. Realizing the seriousness of the situation Private Nidiffer, with utter disregard for his personal safety, crawled forward to an advanced position and destroyed several enemy automatic weapons. During this action, while inflicting numerous enemy casualties, he was mortally wounded by an enemy round. Private Nidiffer’s heroism enabled his unit to continue its attack upon enemy positions. The gallantry in action displayed by Private Nidiffer reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
