The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Louis F. Nastri (ASN: 0-2019640), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with the 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 17 October 1950, near Chegpungnyong-ni, Korea, Lieutenant Nastri and three enlisted men came under heavy enemy fire while trying to deliver ammunition to a company under attack. When it was learned the leader of another patrol had been wounded and could not be recovered because of the intense action, Lieutenant Nastri and his comrades, under covering fire of the patrol, fought their way to and successfully evacuated the wounded officer, killing and wounding several enemy en route. He then reorganized elements of one company and the local Korean police into a unit and deployed them in firing positions to cover the immediate zone of activity. Lieutenant Nastri’s timely action and inspiring leadership contributed greatly in overcoming the enemy resistance and reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
