The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Harry L. Nace (ASN: RA-13257263), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 14 and 15 February 1951 in the vicinity of Chipyong-ni, Korea. Company G was under heavy attack and was forced to withdraw for approximately 400 yards, leaving two machine guns behind. When he reached the company’s new lines, Private Nace voluntarily returned to the vacated position and, under heavy enemy fire, retrieved a .30 caliber machine gun. While bringing the weapon back he was wounded by hostile fire, but realizing that his unit was in desperate need of all available arms he once more made the 800 yards round trip and succeeded in retrieving the other gun and returning with it to the new area. His courageous action prevented the machine guns from falling to the enemy and greatly increased the fire power of his company. The gallantry displayed by Private Nace reflects the highest great upon himself is in keeping with the fine traditions of the military service.
