The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal William H. Myer, Jr. (ASN: RA-12299509), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 2d Battalion, 5th Regimental Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. During an attack by a superior number of enemy on 13 August 1950, in the vicinity of Sahnlung-li, Korea, Corporal Myer quickly moved his mortar to a position exposed to intense enemy fire and directed effective fire to inflict heavy casualties on the attacking force until he was mortally wounded. Corporal Myer’s courageous determination and gallant devotion to duty were instrumental in disrupting the fanatical attack and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
