The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Harry Munshower (ASN: RA-23780321), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 3d Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. During the early morning hours of 24 June 1953, in the vicinity of Chat-Kol, Korea, Company K, 3d Battalion, of which Sergeant Munshower was heavy weapons platoon sergeant, was subjected to intense enemy mortar and artillery barrages reparatory to an enemy attack. When the bombardment commenced, Sergeant Munshower immediately organized his men and directed their fire. When assured that his men were operating with maximum effectiveness, he rushed across the terrain under fire to operate a machine gun overlooking the approach to his platoon sector. He courageously remained in this exposed position throughout the shelling and fired rapidly and accurately at the enemy now penetrating the friendly trenches. After the assault had been repelled, he organized and led a party of men into the impact area to recover the wounded personnel in the trenches. His brave actions were instrumental in the defeat of the enemy operation and alleviated much suffering. Sergeant Munshower’s outstanding gallantry and devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
