The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Paul Shelton Mullins (ASN: RA-13428658), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of the Medical Company, 65th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. During the morning and early afternoon of 17 July 1953, in the vicinity of Kumhwa, Korea, Company B raided enemy-held Hill “433” and sustained several casualties. Corporal Mullins, an aidman attached to the unit, immediately rushed into the terrain under heavy enemy fire and commenced to administer aid to the wounded raiders. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he moved through the bombardment from one exposed position to another. Corporal Mullins then courageously made several trips across the shell-torn slope to place the casualties in a sheltered location. He then rushed back into the impact area in search of additional wounded and, in this brave attempt, was mortally wounded by the enemy fire. Corporal Mullins’ outstanding gallantry and devotion to duty reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
