Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 307 (July 17, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant First Class Edward Mrowicki (ASN: RA-32225979), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 72d Tank Battalion, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 18 May 1951, near Chauni, Korea. On this date Sergeant Mrowicki was a tank commander in a platoon directly supporting infantry units which were under heavy attack by a numerically superior enemy force. During an early morning engagement, Sergeant Mrowicki was wounded in the left arm. In spite or his wounds he dismounted from his tank in the face of intense enemy fire and threw illuminating grenades to the front of his position so that the other tanks of his platoon could see and fire upon the enemy. When his platoon was ordered to clear a large valley from enemy troops so that an organized withdrawal could be made by other units, he voluntarily commanded the lead tank. Throughout the action, Sergeant Mrowicki exposed himself on numerous occasions to aid and evacuate the wounded. He entered into close combat with the enemy, destroying 3 enemy weapons and an estimated 80 enemy troops. The gallantry and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Mrowicki was an inspiration to his comrades and reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
