Headquarters, 3d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 34 (1953)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class David Moskowitz (ASN: US-51118873), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company I, 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 15 August 1952, Company I was assigned the mission of attacking an enemy-held hill in the vicinity of Chiro-dong, Korea. Private Moskowitz was serving as a member of the platoon that was designated as the base of fire for an assault platoon. As the friendly elements approached their objective, they encountered the small arms and automatic weapons fire of a numerically superior enemy ambush. When the men of the assault platoon began withdrawing through the base of fire group they were attacked by the enemy who were threatening to prevent their withdrawal. Immediately answering the call for volunteers to assist the assault platoon in subduing the enemy threat, Private Moskowitz advanced upon the enemy, firing his rifle and hurling grenades. Through his actions the enemy became so confused that the friendly forces were able to force them to retreat. Private Moskowitz’ gallantry reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
