The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Bugler Jennings Bryan Browne (ASN: 2398042), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Machine-Gun Company, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Fossoy, France, July 14 – 15, 1918. Bugler Browne exposed himself to heavy fire while carrying numerous messages during the heavy artillery preparation preceding the last German offensive. He was killed while acting as guide to a front-line platoon.
