The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to First Lieutenant (Infantry) Harry S. Morrison, Jr. (ASN: 0-1340681), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company K, 3d Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 7 September 1950 in the vicinity of Changnyong, Korea. Lieutenant Morrison assumed temporary command of his company while the Commanding Officer was on another mission. Due to very heavy enemy fire the company was ordered to withdraw, but almost immediately it came under severe flanking enemy fire which halted the withdrawal. Lieutenant Morrison continuously exposed himself to this intense enemy fire while maneuvering the company to effect retirement. He was soon wounded. However, he declined medical aid and persisted in directing the company to cover. In a weakened condition due to his wound he was unable to further withdraw and the company completed the move, leaving three volunteers to remain with their leader. An enemy patrol searched the area that night and realizing the danger for the three volunteers, he ordered them to rejoin their unit. Before he could be evacuated the next morning, Lieutenant Morrison died of his wounds. His fearlessness and high devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the high traditions of the military service.
