McConnell (ASN: 1445946), United States Army, is cited by the Commanding General, American Expeditionary Forces, for gallantry in action and a silver star may be placed upon the ribbon of the Victory Medals awarded him. Sergeant Major McConnell distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with Headquarters Detachment, 69th Infantry, American Expeditionary Forces, in action in the Montrebeau Woods, France, 29 September 1918, in voluntarily delivering an important message under enemy fire.
