The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to First Lieutenant (Quartermaster Corps) Robert B. Morrisey (ASN: 0-1592459), United States Army, for heroism involving voluntary risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy while serving with the 3511th Quartermaster Truck Company, in Germany. On the night of 11 April 1945, in Alsfeld, Germany, a cargo truck loaded with high explosive ammunition caught fire, endangering a nearby barracks housing displaced persons. Exhibiting cool leadership and with utter disregard for his own safety, he entered the barracks and directed an orderly withdrawal from the endangered building. He then returned to the blazing truck and aided in keeping the flames from spreading. First Lieutenant Morrisey’s heroic actions and loyal devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
