The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Allen W. Morris (ASN: RA-14296190), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company F, 2nd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Yang-mun-ni, Korea, on 22 December 1950. Corporal Morris’ company was on a patrolling mission when it was subjected to intense automatic weapons and mall arms fire from a numerically superior enemy force. This fire temporarily disorganized elements of the company and inflicted many casualties. Displaying outstanding courage and devotion to duty, Corporal Morris unhesitatingly moved forward, through a hail of withering fire, to a far forward and exposed position from which he poured deadly automatic rifle fire on the enemy positions. When the company was ordered to withdraw, he voluntarily remained in position to cover the movement and only after being assured of the safe withdrawal of all his comrades did he begin to fall back through intense fire to join his unit. As he moved to the rear he observed a wounded comrade lying in a position being covered by enemy fire. Again displaying exceptional devotion to duty he ran to his comrade’s side. Utterly unmindful of personal safety he picked up the wounded man, who otherwise might have been left to the mercy of the fanatic enemy, and was greatly instrumental in the successful withdrawal of his company. His outstanding performance on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and upheld the highest traditions of the United States Infantry.
