The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Raymond Morgan (ASN: Rap-15413554), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 65th Engineer Combat Battalion, 25th Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 16 September 1950, near Amho, Korea, the squad with which Corporal Morgan was serving was clearing a mine field forward of friendly lines when heavy machine gun fire halted the work. Having sighted two hostile emplacements, Corporal Morgan crawled some 100 yards under the raking fire to a tank, the .50 caliber machine gun of which was without a gunner. Manning the weapon, he delivered an intense volume of fire on the enemy; stopping only long enough to change barrels, he resumed his fire, destroyed the two hostile emplacements and permitted his squad to take cover. Corporal Morgan’s valorous initiative, devotion to his comrades and soldierly ability reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Army.
