The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Second Lieutenant (Infantry) Hunton L. Morgan (ASN: 0-960319), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company E, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 6 October 1951 in the vicinity of Satae-ri, Korea. On that date Lieutenant Morgan was leading a platoon in an assault on a heavily fortified enemy-held strong hold. During the ensuing action the unit’s advance was impaired by intense hostile fire which inflicted numerous friendly casualties. Lieutenant Morgan, undaunted by this fire and shouting words of encouragement to his men, led them on. The enemy seemed determined to hold the hill to the last man, but disregarding this fact he kept surging forward with his men. Upon reaching a point several yards from the hostile positions he halted his unit and circulating among his men, he directed them into positions from where they could lay down the most effective base of fire. By his actions the enemy was pinned down enabling friendly units, bringing up the rear, to advance and completely route the hostile force. The gallantry in action and aggressive leadership displayed by Lieutenant Morgan on this occasion reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
