First Lieutenant Moran was serving as a forward artillery observer with the 32d Infantry Division near Hansaemni, Korea. He exposed himself to enemy fire in directing the fire of his battalion on an enemy emplacement that had trapped a column of United Nations troops in a ravine. This artillery fire relieved the pressure on the trapped column. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by First Lieutenant Moran, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
