The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Thomas Omer Moore, Jr. (ASN: RA-18281319), United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company I, 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division, in action against the enemy near Anju, Korea, on 5 November 1950. During an attack by his company a strong enemy force placed exceptionally heavy automatic weapons fire on the advancing troops who were forced to seek covered positions Placed by his platoon leader in a covered position from which he could return the enemy fire, he quickly observed that in order to gain fire superiority a new position should be reached. Displaying outstanding aggressiveness and devotion to duty he left his position of relative safety and moved forward to a completely exposed position where he poured a great volume of automatic rifle fire on the enemy. Utterly disregarding the intense fire on the enemy. Utterly disregarding the intense fire with which the enemy swept his immediate area he remained in position until is ammunition was expended. Returning to a covered position he replenished his ammunition supply and again displaying outstanding courage moved once more, in the face of withering fire, to his exposed position. While his comrades moved in a flanking maneuver he bore the full fury of the enemy’s fire, placing accurate fire into the enemy’s position and inflicting heavy casualties until he fell mortally wounded. Private First Class Moore’s courageous actions and complete devotion to duty resulted in the complete rout of the enemy by his company, and reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the United States Infantry.
