The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Flight Officer Cecil L. Moore (ASN: T-60234), United States Army Air Forces, for gallantry in action against the enemy while serving as Pilot of a P-39 Airacobra Fighter Airplane, in aerial operations against the enemy in in the Southwest Pacific Theater of Operations, on 30 August 1943. Flight Officer Moore remained to protect his flight leader’s damaged plane from three attacks by fighter airplanes, superior in number, during which he destroyed one of the enemy and had his own plane hit eleven times. The gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty demonstrated by Flight Officer Moore, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army Air Forces.
