The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Haskell Mobley (ASN: RA-13353857), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. Near Tongduchon-ni, Korea, on 1 April 1951, Private Mobley’s company was attacking strong enemy positions on Hill 526 when he observed a well-concealed enemy automatic rifle emplacement which was pouring a deadly hail of fire into the forward elements of the company. He immediately volunteered to move out in front of the company and cross the exposed terrain towards the location of the enemy weapon. Despite the vicious enemy fire sweeping the area, Private Mobley crawled to within twenty yards of the emplacement and threw a hand grenade among the gun crew. He then rushed the position and killed the remainder of the enemy who still lived. Private Mobley’s daring and courageous actions were instrumental in permitting the company to continue the advance to the objective with a minimum of casualties. These gallant achievements reflect great credit upon Private Mobley and the military service.
