Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 650 (October 30, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant [then Corporal] Edmund T. Mizerek (ASN: ER-12313205), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 1 September 1951 in the vicinity of Yanggu, Korea. On this date, in an attempt to secure a vital enemy-held hill, Company A met heavy enemy resistance, resulting in many of its leaders being wounded. Sergeant Mizerek, a squad leader, voluntarily assumed command of his platoon, and led his men forward. Unmindful of the heavy concentrations of enemy fire, Sergeant Mizerek, while in an exposed position, delivered accurate and effective fire upon hostile positions. His display of courage so inspired his men that they assaulted the enemy position with a ferocity that inflicted heavy casualties upon the enemy. The gallantry and outstanding leadership displayed by Sergeant Mizerek on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
