The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant George H. Dore, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 3 July 1863, while serving with Company D, 126th New York Infantry, in action at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The colors being struck down by a shell as the enemy were charging, Sergeant Dore rushed out and seized it, exposing himself to the fire of both sides.
