The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Homer M. Mills (ASN: RA-20420633), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 2d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On the night of 23 May 1951, Company G had the mission of leading the 2d Battalion’s attack on Hill 1075, the dominating terrain feature in the vicinity of Habae-jae, Korea. During the initial stages of the attack, the unit was pinned down by withering enemy fire and the attack was halted. Realizing the need for immediate action, Sergeant Mills, acting leader of the Second Platoon, braved withering enemy fire to reorganize his men and direct their movements. Under Sergeant Mills’ skillful leadership, the platoon deployed around the enemy’s left flank and inflicted heavy casualties on the hostile force. Sergeant Mills’ gallant and aggressive actions enabled the 2d Battalion to secure the vital objective and reflects the highest credit upon himself and the military service.
