The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Wilmer Ray Miller (ASN: US-55089605), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 4 October 1951, Company A was attacking well-fortified enemy positions on Hill 281, near Chungse-ri, Korea. As the leading elements began the assault, they were met by a hail of enemy fire and one of the most advanced men was wounded, falling in an exposed position. Observing his stricken comrade in extreme peril, Private Miller, leaving his position of relative cover, fearlessly raced through the lethal enemy fire in a gallant effort to remove his friend to safety; however, upon reaching the side of the soldier, Private Miller was struck and mortally wounded by the withering hostile fire. The gallantry, courage and complete selflessness exhibited by Private Miller reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
