The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Norman Miller, Jr. (ASN: ER-16302725), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company D, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 18 May 1951, in the vicinity of Kunmul-gol, Korea. On that date, Corporal Miller’s 75-mm. rifle section was attacked and overrun by the enemy while engaged in the defense of the flank of the 1st Battalion. Although free to withdraw from his position, Corporal Miller chose to remain and fight the enemy with grenades and small arms until he fell, mortally wounded, in the course of his valiant stand. The gallantry in action and self-sacrificing devotion to duty demonstrated by Corporal Miller on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
