The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Corporal Chester J. Miller (ASN: US-55047739), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company G, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 27 August 1951 in the vicinity of Yanggu, Korea. On this date Company G was maintaining a holding position against a numerically superior enemy force. As the intensity of hostile fire increased, friendly elements were forced to withdraw. During the withdrawal, a radioman was seriously wounded and was laying helplessly in the face of the enemy advance. Corporal Miller, sighting the wounded man, immediately advanced across the fire-swept terrain to reach him. Picking him up, Corporal Miller returned through the heavy fire. In this exposed position he was painfully wounded, but disregarded his pain and continued on to safety. The unselfish devotion to duty and gallantry in action displayed by Corporal Miller on this occasion is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
