Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 648 (October 29, 1951)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Bernard Miller (ASN: RA-43033641), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company F, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 10 August 1951 in the vicinity of Changga-Hyon, Korea. On this date Sergeant Miller, platoon leader, was assigned the mission of leading his platoon in an assault upon a heavily fortified enemy hill. As the unit advanced through a heavily mined and booby trapped area, it was suddenly subjected to intense enemy small arms and automatic weapons fire which inflicted several friendly casualties. Sergeant Miller immediately directed his men into effective positions to set up a counter fire action and disregarding the intense enemy fire, he assisted in the evacuation of his wounded comrades. Returning to his men, he successfully withdrew them to friendly positions. Sergeant Miller, then volunteered to lead another platoon in an attack against the enemy. Armed with an automatic rifle he assaulted an enemy machine gun emplacement, inflicting numerous casualties upon hostile forces. As a result of his dauntless leadership, his unit was able to accomplish its mission. The gallantry in action displayed by Sergeant Miller on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
