The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Arnold R. Miller (ASN: US-55060094), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company B, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 26 August 1951 in the vicinity of Yanggu, Korea. On this date Company B was occupying defensive positions along a strategic hill. In the early morning hours a numerically superior enemy force launched a fanatical attack, completely encircling the company and isolating the unit from support of friendly forces. Private Miller, disregarding his personal safety, voluntarily left his position of comparative safety to relay messages to the commanding officer. Although comrades all along his path were pinned down by the devastating enemy fire, Private Miller continued to relay the vital information. As a result of his heroic actions, reinforcements arrived and hostile forces were repulsed from their positions. The gallantry and devotion to duty displayed by Private Miller on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
