The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to First Lieutenant (Field Artillery) Paul G. Milbee (ASN: 0-61425), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Battery C, 39th Field Artillery Battalion, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 3 February 1951 near Kusong-Myon, Korea, Lieutenant Milbee had a mission as artillery forward observer with Company L 15th Infantry. During an attack against strong enemy force on high ground, an enemy sniper made his way behind friendly lines and succeeded in wounding several men, seriously hampering the attack. Although Lieutenant Milbee was wounded in the face by one of the sniper’s grenades, disregarding his wound and personal safety, he exposed himself to enemy fire, located the sniper and killed him at short range with his pistol. Having disposed of the sniper, Lieutenant Milbee returned to his mission of directing supporting artillery fires. Lieutenant Milbee’s devotion to duty, courage, and heroism reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
