The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Sergeant Floyd Alfred Brooks (ASN: 40373), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company K, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Champagne, France, 13 October 1918. After his lieutenant was seriously wounded, Sergeant Brooks took command of the platoon and led it with marked ability for seven days. Later in the Argonne-Meuse engagement, he personally led his platoon against a machine gun which was holding up the advance of our line and destroyed the gun.
