The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Private First Class William Louis Brockman (ASN: 113033), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company A, 150th Machine-Gun Battalion, 42d Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Auberive, France, 15 July 1918. Private Brockman continued to operate his machine gun against the attacking enemy after all other members of the crew had been killed. Then, going forward to rescue a wounded comrade, was himself instantly killed.
