The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Private First Class Simeon M. Medina (ASN: RA-16311537), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company H, 2d Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy in Korea. On 30 January 1951, near Yongin, Korea, Company E was attacking a well dug-in and camouflaged enemy force on one of the commanding hills in the battalion sector. On reaching an intermediate objective, it came under intense enemy fire sustaining many casualties including the loss of the company commander. Private Medina, gunner for an attached machine gun section, with complete disregard for his personal safety, voluntarily exposed himself to enemy observation and heavy fire, in order to place his gun into action and return fire. Remaining in this dangerous position, he successfully covered the organization of the company on the reverse slope of the hill. Throughout the remainder of the day, Private Medina engaged the enemy from his exposed position in an effort to render the best possible support to Company E. The gallantry and devotion to duty displayed by Private Medina, reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
