The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Private First Class Edmond B. Medeiros (ASN: US-51005419), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 11 and 12 September 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On these dates Private Medeiros and his squad were given the mission of blocking enemy attempts to move north in support of its unit. Disregarding his personal safety, Private Medeiros led his squad through enemy fire to set up blocking positions. After a bitter battle, in which most of his men were wounded, they managed to reach the objective. Private Medeiros remained in his position after his last comrade was wounded and fought gallantly to repel the advancing hostile force. While defending his position, Private Medeiros was overrun by the enemy and was fatally wounded. The gallantry in action and devotion to duty displayed by Private Medeiros on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and the military service.
