The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Captain (Infantry) Amiel W. Brinkley, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 117th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Beaurevoir, France, 7 October 1918. While commanding his company in action Captain Brinkley was wounded by shell fire, which fractured his jawbone in two places. He continued in command of his company, reorganizing it sufficiently to advance, when he was forced to withdraw because of the loss of speech.
