The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Master Sergeant Harold W. McLeod, United States Army, for gallantry in action while serving with Company D, 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. On 26 November 1950 near Yongdon, Korea, Master Sergeant McLeod’s unit was attacked by a powerful hostile force. Despite the proximity of the encircling enemy, he moved among his men to supervise more effectively their movement and fire. Although constantly exposed to intense small arms fire, he continued his efforts for several hours and so inspired his comrades that they hurled back every hostile thrust. Master Sergeant McLeod’s exemplary courage, resolute leadership and selfless devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
