The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Captain (Infantry) Glenn C. McGuyer (ASN: 0-1821609), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company A, 23d Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 13 February 1951, near Chipyong-ni, Korea. On that date he was commanding a rifle company occupying defensive positions constituting a vital link in the Chipyong perimeter. In the face of intense enemy fire during an attack which lasted most of the night, Captain McGuyer remained in the open, going among his men to encourage them to hold, and supervising ammunition carrying details and evacuation of the wounded. His inspiring leadership rallied his men so that they were able to repel the repeated attacks of the superior enemy force. The gallantry of Captain McGuyer reflects great credit upon himself and upholds the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
