The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Sergeant Elmer C. McGlynn (ASN: 20942724), United States Army, for gallantry in action at New Georgia, Solomon Islands, by advancing under fire to destroy seven of the enemy and preventing them from manning a dual purpose gun which was holding up the advance of his platoon on 3 August 1943.
