The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Technician Fourth Grade Carl B. Eller (ASN: 34604893), United States Army, for gallantry in action at ********, ******, ******, on 12 November 1944. The crashing of an enemy plane into a transport vessel resulted in setting fire to inflammable material on deck. Technician Fourth Grade Eller, a passenger aboard the vessel, without regard to his personal safety and amid exploding ammunition and burning gasoline, voluntarily assisted in the extinguishing of the conflagration and subsequent rescue of injured fellow passengers. His gallant action made possible the rescue of enlisted men who otherwise would have perished. Throughout this action, Technician Fourth Grade Eller displayed courage and leadership that were an inspiration to all that observed him.
