The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Chief Warrant Officer Vane E. McCormick (ASN: W-906889), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 12 February 1951, in the vicinity of Hoengsong, Korea. While his company was breaking out of an enemy roadblock on that date, Warrant Officer McCormick, although painfully wounded, refused to be evacuated, insisting that there were others more seriously wounded than himself. After he had been treated, Warrant Officer McCormick remained at the aid station, assisting in caring for the wounded men. When his entire battalion moved through the roadblock, Warrant Officer McCormick, ignoring his own painful wounds and the intense enemy fire falling in the area, repeatedly exposed himself in order to assist in moving immobilized vehicles out of the path of the convoys following behind. The gallantry in action and loyal devotion to duty displayed by Warrant Officer McCormick on this occasion reflect great credit upon himself and uphold the highest traditions of the Military Service of the United States.
