Headquarters, 2d Infantry Division, General Orders No. 73 (January 30, 1952)

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Corporal Jerome E. McClure (ASN: RA-17274409), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against an armed enemy on 2 September 1951 in the vicinity of Taeusan, Korea. On this date, during an assault on hostile positions by Company C, Corporal McClure, realizing the seriousness of the situation and with utter disregard for his own safety, secured an automatic weapon from a fallen comrade and fired upon the enemy. Completely exposed to hostile observation and fire, he laid down a devastating hail of fire on enemy forces, destroying many of their emplacements and inflicting numerous casualties upon them. His deadly and accurate fire forced the enemy to flee in a disorderly manner. During the ensuing action Corporal McClure was fatally wounded but, through his courageous and self-sacrificing actions, his unit was able to secure its objective successfully. The gallantry in action displayed by Corporal McClure reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
