The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of a Second Award of the Silver Star to Sergeant George Tebo McArthur (ASN: US-53038711), United States Army, for gallantry in action as a member of Company C, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2d Infantry Division, in action against the enemy on 10 October 1951 in the vicinity of Tondul, Korea. On this date, during an attack on hostile positions, Company C was halted by heavy fire from several enemy bunkers. Using a new route of approach, Sergeant McArthur led his men in by-passing the enemy emplacements, however, hostile grenade fire still hampered their progress. With a group of riflemen he put forth a continuous covering fire, enabling the remainder of his unit to continue its attack. Sighting a wounded comrade, Sergeant McArthur, with complete disregard for his personal safety, braved the withering hail of enemy fire and upon reaching the wounded man he administered aid and carried him to safety. Returning to his unit he repeatedly exposed himself to hostile fore while directing his men in the attack. The gallantry in action and outstanding leadership displayed by Sergeant McArthur reflects great credit upon himself and the military service.
